History

K9CAN formed in 2000 by four volunteers with experience in raising and training Service Dogs for wheelchair assistance. Founders recognized a need to develop a program that would utilize the strengths and training of the canines that could not be certified as wheelchair assistance dogs.

Services:
K9CAN provides trained dogs to act as social and physical therapy options for children who are mentally and physically challenged, as well as disabled persons.

Observed the results of the dog’s work with special needs children. Decided there was a need for specialized social therapy dogs.

Mission:
To acquire, train, and provide quality Service Dogs for wheelchair assistance; for social therapy interaction with children with autism and other challenges; for specialized physical therapy for youth diagnosed with cerebral palsy and other physical impairments; as well as companion dogs for special needs individuals or groups.
